DR. RUDOLF FRITSCH
Department of Mathematics UNIVERSITY OF MUNICH, GERMANY Some Ideas for Teaching Spatial GeometryAbstract: At least in Germany geometry instruction in high schools mainly treats plane geometry. But we live in a three-dimensional world, for whose understanding a stronger emphasis on spatial geometry is necessary. This can be done by transferring concepts from the plane geometry of the triangle into Euclidean 3-space. One can consider, e.g., spatial angles, spheres connected with a tetrahedron, the Euler line, and - probably only at the college level - Bodenmiller's Theorem. |
