THREE-DIMENSIONAL DOUGHNUT SOLITONS WITH AN INTRINSIC VORTICITY

Abstract:   We introduce spatiotemportal spinning solitons (vortex tori) of the three-dimensional nonlinear Schroedinger equation with focusing cubic and defocusing quintic nonlinearities, which applies to the description of nonlinear media in optics, plasmas, Bose-Einstein condensates, etc. The first ever found completely stable spatiotemporal vortex solitons are demonstrated. A general conclusion is that stable spinning solitons are possible as a result of competition between focusing and defocusing nonlinearities. This conclusion is supported by discovery of similar solitons in a model with competing quadratic and self-defocusing cubic nonlinearities.
