Boundary-Value Problems for Non-Linear Wave Equations and Their Role in Modeling Near-Shore Zone Sediment Dynamics

Abstract: This lecture aims to discuss wave-bottom interaction in shallow water. We start with a discussion of some experiments. These lead naturally to some initial-boundary-value problems for model equations for waves in shallow water. Mathematical progress on these issues will be explained and then their application to a more complex model that includes bottom movement explained. The lecture will conclude with some comparisons with field data and a view of future prospects for this kind of analysis.
