Signal Processing Methods for Pattern Recognition with Application for Automatic Target Recognition

Abstract:   Automatic target recognition has been of interest to the defense community for a long time. Many methods have been proposed for detecting and recognizing targets in various types of images. The more popular approaches favor statistical methods, model based techniques, and adaptive learning algorithms such as neutral networks. This talk focuses on an approach to target detection and recognition that exploits linear systems theory and techniques borrowed from statistical signal processing. The details of various algorithms will be reviewed along with illustrative examples using SAR, LADAR and IR imagery.
