Variational principles in L-infinity under general PDE constraints

Abstract:  Due to its great flexibility in applications, De Giorgi's notion of Gamma-convergence has played a fundamental role in our ability to successfully address important analytical questions emerging in many areas of science.

Gamma-convergence results for a general class of power-law functionals are obtained, leading to new variational principles which are relevant to the study of several problems in Materials Science. A number of highly nonlinear and highly degenerate partial differential equations arise naturally in our analysis.
