TEXTBOOKIntroduction to Perturbation Techniques and also Advanced Mathematical Methods for Scientists and Engineers
by A.H. Nayfeh, Wiley and by C.M. Bender and S.A. Orszag, McGraw-Hill

HOMEWORK
There will be 4 homework sets due about every 3 weeks consisting of problems. You are encouraged to discuss problems with each other. However, the actual write-ups should be your own and based on your eventual individual understanding of the problems. Selected portions of the homework will be graded (with some weight attached to attempting all the problems). These will contribute to 85% of the grade.

TESTS
There will also be an open book in-class or oral final examination, which will account for 15% of the grade.

GRADING SCALE

OTHER INFORMATION
The course will cover the standard perturbation techniques for systems of linear and nonlinear ordinary differential equations. Applications will be drawn from various fields including Solid and Fluid Mechanics, and Mathematical Physics, and will cover periodic and quasiperiodic systems. However, no specific background in these areas is required. The material will be developed in a self-contained manner.
