Mathematics - Minor Recommended Program of Study
|
|
Students in the sciences and engineering majors should strongly consider
earning a minor in mathematics. All engineering majors, and some science
majors, require their students to take Calculus I, II, and III, and Differential
Equations. From here, only two more mathematics courses are required to earn
a minor in mathematics. |
Requirements: To earn a minor in Mathematics, students
must successfully complete:
- One full Calculus sequence: MAC2311, MAC2312, MAC2313
or
MAC2281, MAC2282, MAC2283.
- MAP 2302 Differential Equations
- Six hours (two courses) of additional mathematics
electives at the 3000-level or above, of which at least
three hours must be at the 4000-level or above. These
courses must have an MAA, MAD, MAP, MAS, or MTG prefix.
|
Recommendations: For the six hours of mathematics
electives, most students take two of the following courses:
Recommended for All Majors
- MAS 3105 & Elementary Matrix and Linear Algebra
Recommended for Engineering/Science Majors
- MAP 4363 & Applied Boundary Value Problems I
- MAP 4307 & Applications of Complex Variables
- MAP 4103 & Mathematical Modeling
Recommended for Computer Science Majors
- MAD 4302 & Combinatorics and Graph Theory
|
Notes:
- MHF 3302 Logic and Proof is not accepted for the mathematics minor
(as of the 2003/2004 and prior Undergraduate Catalogs)
- MAP 3401 Problem Analysis is not accepted for the mathematics minor.
|
Declaring a Minor: Students can declare a minor in mathematics by submitting
an "Undergraduate Minor Declaration/Change Form" (available online at
here) to their College advising
office, or to the Registrar's Office (MH 161).
